Four-Week Session offered by arrangement with Education Coordinator months in advance The Dept. of Transfusion Medicine (DTM) will offer one month elective rotations for 4th year medical students twice per year. It should enhance their knowledge in the discipline: to build on the basics of blood banking and gain a better understanding of blood collection, component preparation, safety and hospital-based transfusion service. The month offers experience in performing clinical consultations for Clinical Center patients with our transfusion medicine fellows, exposure to clinical and laboratory immunohematology, apheresis techniques, molecular-level tissue typing, donor recruitment, blood component therapy, and specialized procedures such as peripheral blood stem cell processing and cellular engineering. It also offers the opportunity to attend DTM patient rounds, to participate in HCV clinic, and to attend didactic lectures and journal club. 1. To gain familiarity with transfusion therapy
