Objective of Project:

The objective of this RFA is to create a prostate tissue and data resource to be known as the NCI Cooperative Prostate Cancer Tissue Resource. The Resource will provide researchers with formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens with demographic, clinical and outcome data, bank fresh-frozen specimens (collecting the same data as it becomes available), and collect and distribute fresh-frozen prostate tissue to researchers.

Description of Project:

The Resource will make tissue specimens with associated demographic, clinical and outcome data available to support prostate cancer research. The first year will focus on creating the bank infrastructure, form a coordinating committee to oversee the operation of the bank, develop operating policies and procedures and identify cases with appropriate formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks for entry into the bank. Participants will identify critical data elements, design the resource database, and enter data related to the selected cases. The quality of the specimens and data will be ascertained, a website designed, and a marketing plan developed. Prospective collection of frozen tissue specimens will begin in the second year to meet current needs and to be banked to meet future needs including those of changing technology for measurement of DNA, RNA and proteins. Demographic, clinical and pathology data related to banked frozen specimens will be collected and entered into the database during the second year. Follow-up and outcome data will be entered into the database as it becomes available.
