Objective of Project:

To increase representation of underrepresented minority physician-scientist engaged in laboratory or field-based cancer research. This award will provide an opportunity for underrepresented minority health professionals, through multidisciplinary didactic training and mentored research experiences, to obtain the knowledge and research For the purposes of this Program Announcement, underrepresented minority candidates include individuals belonging to particular ethnic, racial and other groups (e.g., first generation college graduates, disabled persons, socio-economically disadvantaged, etc.) determined by the grantee institution to be underrepresented in cancer-related biomedical research.

Description of Project:

Candidates for this award should have broad clinical training, must demonstrate competence in clinical activities and must document a serious intent for a cancer research career. Applicants must identify a suitable mentor with extensive research experience that will be responsible, with input from the candidate, for the planning, direction, and execution of a career development plan tailored to the applicant's career development needs. Each proposal must include fundamentally sound research approaches that address a research question of scientific merit and must be relevant to the candidate's cancer research career objectives.
