For 5 years, the Portland VA Medical Center has been the site of a novel pilot project (My HealtheVet Pilot) that provides veterans with Internet access to key portions of the electronic medical record including vital signs, progress notes, prescriptions, test results, and wellness reminders. This lecture will present data on the demographics, utilization, and quality outcomes of veterans who signed up for the program. David M. Douglas, M.D. is the Chief Information Officer at the Portland, Oregon VA Medical Center and is national co-chair of a VA secure messaging project that will allow veterans to send e-mail to primary care providers. Dr. Douglas is a graduate of Indiana University Medical School and he completed a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at Oregon Health Sciences University.
