It is increasingly challenging for researchers, health professionals, and consumers to effectively exploit the extensive textual resources provided by NLM, including Medline and ClinicalTrials.gov. High throughput natural language processing applications are required to supplement Library information retrieval services such as PubMed. The Semantic Knowledge Representation project develops programs that extract semantic relationships from biomedical text by building on existing NLM resources, particularly the UMLS. These relationships then serve as input to programs for automatic summarization and visualization of biomedical information. |
