Section on Molecular Genetics of Immunity
Head: Keiko Ozato
This Section works on sequence-specific transcription factors active in the immune system. Our research includes analysis of the in vivo action of RXRb and ICSBP, the genes for which we previously cloned. These factors control transcription by retinoids, interferons, and viruses. We investigate interactions of these factors with other nuclear factors, including chromatin modifiers, such as histone acetylases. Our methodologies include in vitro transcription systems from cell free templates of recombinant RXR or ICSBP, as well as genomic footprinting combined with in vivo chromatin analyses. The role of ICSBP in transcription of cytokine genes is studied using macrophages from ICSBP knockout mice.
