Section on Cell Biophysics
Head: Ralph J. Nossal
Emphasis in this Section is on understanding biophysical aspects of critical cell activities, particularly those involving physical transformations of supramolecular biological complexes. Recent projects relate to intracellular trafficking and cell locomotion. Although much of our work involves mathematical modeling, studies generally are driven by experimental observations, utilizing either published data or information obtained through collaborations with other scientific laboratories. We also are working on the development of optical techniques for tissue characterization, mainly by formulating physical and mathematical models of the way light propagates in optically turbid biological media.
