Today Is National HIV/AIDS Testing Day
June 27, 2007, marks the 14th annual observance of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). HIV testing is a critical component of HIV/AIDS prevention. The purpose of NHTD is to reach those who have never been tested or who have engaged in high-risk behavior since their last test. Knowledge of HIV status can decrease the risk of unknowingly transmitting the virus to others and enable a person to get treatment before symptoms of HIV develop. Those who test negative can also receive information about protection from HIV infection.
AIDSinfo is pleased to participate in and support the commemoration of this important day. Several tools are available to help you promote NHTD events in your area, including new bilingual posters, fact sheets, "personal" public service announcements, and electronic buttons to post on your Web site enabling visitors to find the nearest HIV test facility. You may also register your NHTD event online or search for events in your area.

Summer 2008 Issue of Mental Health AIDS Released
Biopsychosocial therapy involves assessing an individual patient's biological, psychological, and social condition to help determine the best treatment.
Mental Health AIDS is a quarterly biopsychosocial research update on HIV and mental health sponsored by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This publication is provided free of charge through the SAMHSA Web site in both PDF and HTML formats.
The Summer 2008 issue features the "Research on HIV-Related Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions, Stress Management Interventions, & Their Interface: A Confluence of Conclusions & Critiques" Tool Box. This tool box addresses the potential of these interventions for people living with HIV. It also touches on the limitations of such research and demonstrates its effectiveness.
