Hepatitis A and B Vaccines Important for People with HIV, Says Editorial

In a recent editorial in The AIDS Reader, Dr. Jeffrey Laurence discussed the importance of hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccinations for people with HIV. Although vaccination can protect people from liver damage and other complications caused by HAV and HBV, immunization against vaccine-preventable hepatitis in the HIV-infected population is disturbingly low: Dr. Laurence cites one study reporting that only 23.3% and 32.4% of eligible HIV-infected people received at least one dose of HAV and HBV vaccine, respectively.

PubMed Limits Page Enhanced

The PubMed Limits page has traditionally allowed users to restrict searches by age group, gender, human or animal studies, languages, publication type, and date. This week PubMed released improved functionality of the Limits page. Now, you will be able limit your search to only citations that include a link to full text, free full text, or an abstract. You can also refine your search to choose one or more selections under categories such as Languages, or use a search builder to select authors and journals. Check out these new features on PubMed.

Updated Treatment Guidelines Pocket Cards

The AIDS Education and Training Centers (AETC) National Resource Center recently released updated pocket cards for on-the-go antiretroviral therapy in pregnancy and post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) recommendations on the AETC Web site.

The pocket card for the pregnancy guidelines provides quick and easy access to recommendations for antiretroviral therapy to prevent transmission during pregnancy and for infants exposed to HIV.

The PEP pocket card summarizes the guidelines for the management of occupational exposures to HIV, hepatitis B virus, and hepatitis C virus, including recommendations for post exposure prophylaxis.
