Intracellular binding sites

Nonesterified fatty acids (FA) normally bind to intracellular binding sites. Fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEE) produced by the reaction of fatty acids with alcohol (EtOH) can attach to mitochondria within the cell and can cause cellular dysfunction.
