Mission Statement:
The Laboratory of Epidemiology and Biometry’s (LEB) primary responsibility is to develop, design, implement, and direct a large multidisciplinary epidemiological research program of national scope and complexity. The LEB also:
- conducts national surveillance activities to collect and analyze alcohol-related program data through various information systems, including the Alcohol Epidemiologic Data System (AEDS);
- analyzes epidemiological data on alcohol use, abuse, and dependence and their associated disabilities and prepares scientific reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-review journals;
- adapts state-of-the art statistical methodology to the alcohol field;
- collaborates with other agencies and organizations to promote the application of epidemiological research nationally and internationally;
- maintains national statistics on alcohol use disorders and their related conditions and consequences;
- sponsors, develops, and participates in scientific conferences, meetings, workshops, and symposia to exchange information and disseminate new knowledge
- collaborates with other National Institutes of Health and other government agencies to foster shared interests and goals; and
- supports a full range of interagency agreements and contracts.
