- 12/31/2001: Renewal of NIH On-Campus Parking Permits
NIH General Parking Permits for campus employees whose last names begin with A and B will expire on the last day of January 2002. In order to obtain a new permit, an employee must visit the NIH Parking Office in Bldg. 31, Rm. B3B04. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The NIH Business and Research SupportSystem (NBRSS) sitehttp://nbs.nih.gov has been developed to provide youwith information about the new NIH Business System (NBS), which will be implemented over the next 3-4 years. This site includes extensive background information as well as on-line access to their monthly newsletter, NBRSS Today.
- 12/19/2001: Changes in Holiday Hours for Dining Centers

The NIH Office of Communicationsand Public Liaison is looking forhelp from employees to evaluate theNIH web site. NIH's first usability study will measure satisfaction withthe "Information for Employees" page.There is opportunity for compensation. The FAES Graduate School at NIHannounces the schedule of courses for the spring 2002 semester. The evening classes sponsored bythe Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences will be given on theNIH campus. Classes will begin Jan. 28;mail registration ends Dec. 28 andwalk-in registration will be held Jan. 9-15. Schedules will be availablein the graduate school office in Bldg.60, Suite 230, the foundation bookstore in Bldg. 10, Rm. B1L101, and thebusiness office in Bldg. 10, Rm. In conjunction with the 2001 Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB)Program Open Season, which runs from Monday, Nov. 12 through Monday,Dec. 10, NIH is sponsoring an FEHB Open Season Fair. The fair will be held inBldg. 1's Wilson Hall ( 3rd floor) on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Representatives from most of the plans that are available to employees will be onhand to answer questions on their 2002 benefits. Sign language interpretation willbe available for those who need it.

- 11/2/2001: Foil the Flu - 2001 Fighting Flu at NIH Schedule
Free Flu vaccinations will be given in the Occupational Medical Serviceoffices in Building 10, Rm 6C306 on a schedule based on the first letterof the employee's last name. The program is only for NIH employees with anNIH photo ID. Contractors are not permitted to receive the Flu vaccinethrough this program.Additional Flu information is available on the website.
- 10/5/2001: Foil the Flu - 2001 Fighting Flu at NIH
Again this year, the delivery of influenza vaccine has been delayed, with complete vaccine delivery not expected until sometime in November. As of now, a small supply of influenza vaccine has been delivered, and, as always, Clinical Center patients and staff caring for them will be the first to receive immunization. A schedule for the "Foil the Flu" vaccination clinics for the general NIH population has, at press time, not been established. As soon as NIH receives sufficient vaccine, a schedule will be developed and will be publicized to the NIH community. A website has been established which has information about flu and will have the schedule as soon as it's available.

NIH Carpool Parking Permits will expire on the last day of October 2001. New permits must be displayed on November 1, 2001. If you have any questions, contact the NIH Parking Office at 301-496-6851.

- 7/12/2001: Summer 2001 'Science in the Cinema' Begins
The Office of Science Education kicks off this year's free 6-week film festival "Science in the Cinema" on Thursday, July 12. Once a week, a popular film with a medical science theme is screened. Following each movie, an interactive discussion with the audience is led by an expert on the subject depicted in the film.
- 7/12/2001: Fire Prevention Slogans Sought
Fire up your imaginations and think up a nifty slogan for NIH's observance of National Fire Prevention Week. If you win the contest, open to everyone (except members of the sponsoring Emergency Management Branch), your idea appears on next year's commemorative posters at NIH, along with your name. You can enter as often as you like, and entries should be snappy one-liners about fire prevention. Entries are due by Sept. 4. For more information call 496-0487.

- 5/3/2001: NIH Savings Bond Drive
A pizza luncheon will be held for NIH U.S. Savings Bond coordinators and canvassers on Friday, May 11 at noon in Wilson Hall, Bldg. 1. As part of the U.S. Savings Bond campaign kickoff ceremony, the lunchtime gathering will be addressed by NIH acting director Dr. Ruth Kirschstein, as well as by Center for Scientific Review deputy director Dr. Brent Stanfield. - 5/3/2001: 29th NIH Asian/Pacific Islander American Heritage Program
All are invited to join in festivities including a lunchtime program of Asian food and demonstrations of Asian arts and crafts on Friday, May 11 and an evening program of Asian music and dance on Friday, May 25. On May 11, the lunchtime festivities will take place between 11:30 a.m and 1:30 p.m. on the patio of Bldg. 31A. There will be a bonsai exhibition and demonstrations of calligraphy, Japanese tea ceremony and floral arrangement (ikebana). On Friday, Feb. 2, incoming HHS Secretary Thompson will address and greet HHS employees in the Great Hall of the Humphrey Bldg. The event will start at 11 a.m. and run approximately 1/2 hour.
