Parking Permits [Home] [Up] [Handbook Contents] Annual Parking Permits To obtain an NIH parking permit, bring your NIH or PHS Identification Card (ID), driver's license and vehicle registration card to the Parking Office, Building 31, Room B3B04, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Upon presentation of the required identification, as well as your NIH address and telephone number, you will be issued a parking permit. All vehicles using the parking facilities on the National Institutes of Health Reservation or at any of the NIH off-campus buildings must have a valid displayed parking permit. Employees with general parking permits may park in designated carpool spaces after 9:30 a.m. and after 3:00 p.m. in designated red parking areas, excluding numbered and handicapped assigned spaces. Temporary Parking Permits Employees may obtain a temporary permit for emergency situations. To obtain a permit they must present their NIH ID card at the following locations:
In order for a temporary permit to be valid, the date must be clearly written in ink. Permit dates written illegibly, in pencil, or altered in any way will not be valid. The only location at which you may obtain a parking permit for more than one day is the NIH parking office. Disability Parking Permit Employees with a temporary disability requesting parking in the areas reserved for employees with disabilities must submit a completed NIH Form NIH 26-9 to the Occupational Medical Service (OMS), DS, Building 10, Room 6C306, 301-496-4411. OMS will confirm the need for priority parking; additional information may be requested by OMS from the employee, as necessary, Approval for temporary priority parking will not exceed 90 days. The permit will be issued until the last date shown on the documentation provided. Employees with appropriate documentation will receive parking permits for areas reserved for employees with disability from the NIH Parking Office, Division of Security Operations (DSO), Office of Research Services, after completing the NIH Form 26-9. Parking in excess of 24 hours All requests for permission to park over 24 hours must have the approval of the Police Branch. Employees must come to the Police Branch (Building 31, Room B3B17) and present a copy of the official travel order, car registration card, and NIH identification card.
