Lyn Freeman, Ph.D.

Lyn FreemanLyn Freeman earned her masters degree in human sciences and Ph.D. in psychology from Saybrook Institute. She is currently the Concentration Director for Health Studies. Dr. Freeman's emphasis of study was in mind-body therapies as intervention for chronic disease. Recent research projects involved testing the efficacy of imagery to modulate symptoms in 100 chronic asthma patients and a phenomenological study of critical thinking as intervention for suicidal adolescents in outpatient treatment. Formerly the Director of the Division of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Community and Technical College, University of Alaska, Anchorage, Dr. Freeman is now affiliated with the Institution of Circumpolar Health at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. The Institute is dedicated to research on the special needs of Alaskan residents, including Alaskan Natives and the circumpolar health community. Dr. Freeman is an advisory board member to the Traditional Healing Program at South-central Foundation, Anchorage, Alaska, and to Dinlishla, a nonprofit organization of traditional and tribal healers. She has facilitated sessions on complementary and alternative medicine at national and international conferences. Dr. Freeman served as the Executive Director to the State of Alaska Commission on Aging in 2001 and 2002. She is currently research faculty with the University of Alaska, Anchorage and creates and teaches courses of complementary medicine and traditional healing.
