Lila J. Finney Rutten, MPH, PhD (contractor)
Contractor, Health Partners

Lila Finney Rutten

Dr. Lila Rutten is a Project Officer in NCI's Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch. Her current responsibilities include overseeing Branch-related NIH grants and contracts, managing/coordinating the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), and pursuing her own program of research in population surveillance of behavioral and communication constructs. Having served as an active member of NCI's team of scientists for the past six years, Dr. Rutten is well positioned to progress the science of health communication for HCIRB and the Behavioral Research Program.

Dr. Rutten made the decision to join NCI as a Cancer Prevention Fellow in 2001. Four years later, she moved into the role of Behavioral Scientist for the Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch, contracted by Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC). In this capacity, she became intimately familiar with the HINTS program, serving as a member of the HINTS management team, assisting in the development of dissemination tools and activities, establishing and maintaining liaison with external HINTS contractors, and publishing several analyses based on HINTS data.

Prior to her work with NCI, Dr. Rutten was an adjunct faculty member at the College of Mount Saint Joseph in the Department of Behavioral Science, and a statistician at Statistics Solutions, Inc. Her exemplary work in the field of Behavioral Science and commitment to cancer prevention and communication research has earned her several awards including a 2006 Performance Award from SAIC, Inc.; 2003 Merit Award from NCI's Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program; and Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Society of Behavioral Medicine 2002 meeting.

Dr. Rutten received her MPH from Harvard University, her PhD and MA in Psychology from Miami University, and her BS in Psychology from Bemidji State University.
