Kia Davis is a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Fellow in NCI's Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch. As a CRTA Fellow, Ms. Davis' responsibilities include assisting in the strategic planning, coordination, development, and implementation of research announcements and activities. To date, she has participated in the strategic analysis of NCI's R21 grant mechanism, with specific attention to its impact on the career and future funding potential of both internal and external investigators; assisted in content development for the Centers of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research Initiative II RFA; and identified potential opportunities for secondary data analyses of HINTS data. Bringing to her position a particular interest in the field of health disparities, Ms. Davis is also looking forward to collaborating with NCI staff on research proposals, presentations, and publications related to health communication and social determinants of health research.
Ms. Davis joined the NCI team in July of 2007. Prior to, she served as an Eliminating Health Disparities Fellow at Saint Louis University School of Public Health. In this capacity, she worked on various research projects where she administered face to face research protocol with study participants, worked in recruiting low-income minority adults for study participation, and conducted research with minors in school settings. In addition, Ms. Davis completed an independent research project as an Evaluation Research Assistant with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Diabetes Initiative. In this role she coordinated and conducted a national multi-site evaluation of select grantee locations to determine the contribution of community health workers to diabetes self management.
Ms. Davis received her MPH with a dual concentration in Epidemiology and Behavioral Science and Health Education from Saint Louis University School of Public Health. She received her B.A. in Spanish from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
