National Library of Medicine's (NLM) LocatorPlus provides the public with a free online catalog of scientific resources.

Anyone can use LocatorPlus to do the following:

  • Search for books, journals, reports, and audiovisual titles in the NLM collection.
  • Find records for serials and books not in the collection but owned by regional libraries.
  • See records for journals, books, reports, and audiovisuals on order, on loan, or in process at NLM.

Using simple and advanced search menus, you can search by keyword, author, title, journal title, MeSH® (medical subject headings), call number, or other fields. You can limit your keyword search by type of media, format, language, date of publication, or shelving location to perform the following searches:

  • Advanced Menu Search -- finds records using keywords located in a field or anywhere in a record.
  • New to the Collections -- generates a list of materials recently added to the NLM collections.
  • Simple Search -- enter words or phrases in the Search: box.

For more detailed instructions on how to use LocatorPlus, go to LocatorPlus Help, Tutorials, and FAQs.

LocatorPlus provides access to NLM Databases and Electronic Resources, an alphabetical listing of health-related resources, through its Other Databases tab. Some of these resources include the following:

  • Medline Plus -- links the public to many sources of consumer health information. Find the latest health news; directories to help you find health professionals, services, and facilities; and information on drugs and supplements.
  • PubMed -- provides references, including abstracts for articles in thousands of biomedical journals.
  • PubMed Central (PMC) -- is NIH's free digital archive of full-text biomedical and life sciences journal literature.
