Overview
The Section on Stroke Diagnostics and Therapeutics at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke seeks to recruit a Cerebrovascular Fellow interested in an academic career in clinical stroke research. The program is oriented towards emergency management of cerebrovascular disease with emphasis in neuroimaging, thrombolysis, and other novel therapeutic and diagnostic approaches. The goal of the fellowship is to prepare the participants to be independent clinicians and researchers engaged in active cerebrovascular programs at academic centers.

Structure of the Clinical Training Program
The fellowship is a one- to two-year program combining training in management of acute stroke patients and in the application of modern neuroimaging techniques to stroke management. The program runs two acute stroke care and research centers in the Washington DC metropolitan area with state-of-the art dedicated MRI facilities (1.5 T and 3.0 T). The fellow will be provided the opportunity to develop expertise in the management of acute stroke patients, and in applying modern neuroimaging techniques to stroke management. Fellows will be involved in several phase I and phase II acute stroke clinical trials, a large natural history neuroimaging study, and studies evaluating the cerebrovascular consequences of neurovascular and cardiac procedures. The program encourages independent project development by the fellows and provides extensive scientific advisory support from clinical and basic scientists at the Stroke Center and NIH.
