Using VPN

NIH Wireless uses VPN client software to ensure communication is encrypted. Any VPN client software that supports Government-standard AES-256 encryption should be compatible with the NIH Wireless VPN servers. CIT provides a client free-of-charge for supported operating systems. This client offers increased reliability, improved availability, and greater standards compliance for superior interoperability. The Wireless VPN client supplied by CIT is fully compatible with the NIH Remote Access VPN service.

How to Use VPN

You do not need a separate VPN account to use Wireless VPN. Wireless VPN is fully integrated with NIH Active Directory (AD). Thus, all NIH employees and contractors with AD accounts have the ability to use wireless VPN.

You may obtain the free client software for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux from http://sdp.cit.nih.gov/downloads/vpn_tools.asp (this link is accessible from outside the NIH network).

CIT also provides other wireless downloads for popular wireless cards from http://sdp.cit.nih.gov/downloads/wireless_lan.asp.

Mac OS 9 - The installation instructions will come with the client when you purchase it from the vendor:
