#730Introduction to the QVR System

Description:
The QVR (Query/View/Report) is a robust web-based system that serves as a portal for gathering information from the IMPAC current, frozen, and history databases, and NIH Data Warehouse extramural obligation data, to answer ad hoc questions about individual grants and portfolios, and to support common extramural business activities. The QVR has a multitude of features:
  • User-friendly and user-defined search screens and Hit lists that link to most of IMPAC's electronic grants documents such as the summary statement, application image, and Notice of Grant award (NGA), as well as detailed PI and grant snapshots and history, and access to grant and PI publication history via PubMed
  • Over 400 data items that can be selectively downloaded to a spreadsheet or database
  • Almost 50 standard reports designed to provide information for Grants Management, Scientific Review, Budget, Scientific Programs and others interested in Extramural data.
  • Full range of Help documentation and numerous tutorials.

In addition to examining QVR's basic search tools and products, the class will briefly highlight QVR's newer Person Search, History Search and ALL Extramural features.

This class is designed to introduce new users to the system. The presentation will highlight the full range of features and capabilities of the QVR system. The class will be presented in two parts:
  • The first part of the class will be a presentation that will focus on introducing new users to the QVR system's components and a demonstration of how to use them.
  • The second part of the class will be a hands-on-session during which participants will be guided through a series of exercises that will help them become familiar with the basic functionality of the QVR system as applied to real world questions.

Class participants are encouraged to logon to the QVR System and explore the QVR homepage which contains useful information about the system. Current QVR users are also encouraged to attend. There has been a steady stream of new features added to the system. QVR users who have not taken this training class in the last year will find the class to be good refresher course.

Objectives:
To familiarize the new user with the full range of features of the QVR System
Who should attend:
There are no prerequisites for this class; however, class participants are encouraged to logon to the QVR system and explore the QVR Homepage which contains useful information about the system.
