NIH American Indian/Alaska Native Employee Council

The NIH’s American Indian/Alaska Native Employee Council (AIANEC) provides NIH employees with an opportunity to explore the culture and heritage of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

The AIANEC:

  • Provides insight and advice to NIH offices that address Native American issues;
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention of employees of Native American descent at NIH;
  • Provides a network for personal and professional growth for Native American employees at NIH;
  • Improves communication and increase awareness among the Council and the NIH community;
  • Shares the proud cultural heritage and diversity of Native Americans with all employees of NIH;
  • Participates in the NIH Internship Program to recruit Native students;
  • Organizes National American Indian/Alaska Native Heritage Month celebration activities;
  • Promotes and sponsors Native American activities in the NIH and in the local community.

Membership in the AIANEC is open to all NIH employees who are interested in contributing towards accomplishing the Council’s goals and objectives. The AIANEC bylaws provide details on membership categories and voting rights of members.
