Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Counseling Program

The HIV Counseling Program for patients and staff at NIH provides counseling, consultation, education, and outreach about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the virus that can cause the Acquired Immunodeficiency Disease Syndrome (AIDS). The HIV Counselor is available to discuss your concerns, questions, and feelings; provide education about HIV; and facilitate contact with community resources. All discussions are confidential.

The HIV Counseling Program also provides HIV/AIDS training for healthcare professionals, schools, and agencies in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Within the NIH, it provides in-services and education on topics including “Management of Unexpected HIV Diagnosis in the Clinical Center, " “How to Disclose an HIV Diagnosis,”  and “Psychosocial Issues in Persons Living with HIV/AIDS.” HIV publications, pamphlets, fact sheets, and websites are also available through the HIV Counselor. Information is available in English and Spanish.

To reach the HIV Counselor, call (301) 496-2381.
