This SOP has internal roles only.

Standard Operating Procedure Table of Contents

Purpose

To change an application's internal NIAID program assignment within a division or between divisions.

Procedure

After the Center for Scientific Review (CSR) assigns an application to NIAID, the Referral and Program Analysis Branch (RPAB) gives it a program class code (PCC), indicating a scientific program, using Institute referral guidelines. NIAID program officers use the following process to request an internal change of an application's assignment when the change results in a new program class code.

Do not use this process to change administrative codes, which are used in the divisions to further refine program class code assignments. To change an administrative code, check your division's internal process. To request a change of primary IC assignment from CSR, see the NIAID Request for Assignment Changes from CSR SOP.

Program Officers

  • May request a change of program class code if:
    • An application is assigned inappropriately.
    • Division referral guidelines change.
    • New program class codes are in effect.
  • Work with RPAB to change the assignment:
    • Assemble a justification and concurrences from all involved parties.
    • Email these, with the requested assignment change to Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Contact for NIAID Staff.

RPAB Staff

  • Review the grant application and program change documentation.
  • If the change is consistent with NIAID's referral guidelines, make the change in the Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Receipt and Assignment Database and notify all involved parties.
  • The reassigned code will be uploaded to IMPAC that night.
