Standard Operating Procedure Table of Contents

 

Purpose

To accept big grant applications, document requests for assigning future applications to NIAID, and request a waiver of receipt date for applications to be peer reviewed by NIAID's Scientific Review Program (SRP).

Procedure

Submit Awaiting Receipt of Application (ARA) forms to Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Contact for NIAID Staff for NIH approval.

Program Staff

  • Keep your division coordinators informed and refer to any internal division guidance when you plan to submit an ARA.
  • Form instructions: Do not save copies of the ARA form locally; bookmark it to ensure you are using the latest version.
    • Be sure to fill in the "return to:" section of the ARA form if you wish to be informed of any action taken by DEA.
    • Send the ARA to Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Contact for NIAID Staff before the receipt date. ARAs stay active for six months. If the receipt date changes, send a revised ARA.
  • Big grants. After your division director approves a request to accept a big grant application, see the Big Grants SOP for next steps.
  • Potentially late applications. An applicant may contact you about a potentially late application
    • Direct the applicant to the scientific review officer (SRO) assigned to the review of the application.
  • Applications in response to a funding opportunity announcement sponsored by multiple ICs. A PI may want to submit an application in NIAID's area of interest. Consider if NIAID would accept primary assignment.
    • Consult with your division coordinators if you aren't sure whether NIAID would accept primary assignment.
    • If you agree that NIAID would accept primary assignment, submit an ARA form to Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Contact for NIAID Staff to indicate NIAID's interest in the application. The Center for Scientific Review (CSR) uses ARA forms to make referral decisions.
  • Phase II small business applications
