What is the purpose of the research study?
To identify the effects of ecstasy on brain functioning and to better understand how the body breaks down and removes ecstasy.

Who can participate in the study?
This study is accepting men and women who:

• Are 18 to 40 years of age
• Use ecstasy
• May use other drugs including marijuana, nicotine, and alcohol

What will participants be asked to do?
This study consists of 4 visits within 1 year. The first visit is a training session and lasts about 5 hours. The next 3 visits are 22-hour overnight sessions in an inpatient unit.

Participants will:

• Provide 2 or more hair samples
• Provide multiple blood, urine, and saliva samples
• Receive multiple EKGs and MRI brain scans

Where is the study taking place?
The NIDA Intramural Research Program is located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus in East Baltimore. The inpatient study visits may take place on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, or on the campus of the Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville, Maryland.

How much does it cost?
There is no cost for participation.

Will I receive payment of some kind?
All study participants will be compensated for their time and travel.
