-------------- Projprev 1.0.1 -------------- The purpose of the Projected Prevalence (ProjPrev) application is to take Limited-Duration Prevalence statistics from SEER*Stat and apply them to a different population. The population would typically differ in year or geographic area. ProjPrev is primarily used to derive U.S. prevalence by projecting SEER prevalence onto U.S. populations. You must first run SEER*Stat to create and export Limited-Duration Prevalence values, using "by" (table) variables consistent with the intended population. The export comes in the form of two files, a dictionary (.dic) and a text file (.txt) containing the data. The output from this system is also in the form of a dictionary and text data file combination. The populations provided with SEER*Stat are mid-year population estimates, the default for prevalence estimates is January 1. January 1 populations can be estimated by averaging the populations of two successive years. Calculate the populations for the 2 years of interest and then allow ProjPrev to divide them by 2 to create the average. The interface allows users to match prevalence variables to their corresponding population variables, and to rename them for output as needed. Output variable formats may also be edited to match the corresponding population variable formats. All prevalence variables do not need to be in the population. For example you may have prevalence by non-population variables such as cancer site. The interface allows only one population variable without matching prevalence data. An example of ProjPrev usage is available on the web at: www.srab.cancer.gov/software/prevalence.html ---------------- REVISION HISTORY ---------------- 10/13/2005 - Version 1.0.1 1. New functionality added to search for data file in dictionary file directory, if the file is not found in the location specified in the dictionary file. 2. Populations for projecting can now also be loaded from a SEER*Stat rate session. The previous version required populations to come from a frequency session. To load from a rate session, all other statistics other than the population must be hidden using SEER*Stat's matrix options dialog. 3. A fix was made to not include statistics in the output dictionary and data file that were included in the limited-duration prevalence file, but not used by Projprev. 4. The output data file name is now included in the output dictionary file. 8/23/2005 - Version 1.0 - Initial release.
