^* Recall rate = the percentage of examinations interpreted as abnormal (BI-RADS category 0,4,5 or 3 with a recommendation for immediate work-up)

^† PPV₁ = the percentage of examinations with an abnormal interpretation that results in a tissue diagnosis of cancer within 1 year

^‡ PPV₂ = the percentage of examinations with final BI-RADS category 4,5 that results in a tissue diagnosis of cancer within 1 year

^§ PPV₃ = the percentage of known biopsies performed as a result of a screen with final BI-RADS category 4,5 that results in a tissue diagnosis of cancer within 1 year
