GPRA/PART
The President's Management Agenda, announced in August 2001, included a Budget and Performance Integration initiative as its top priority reform for federal agencies. NCI utilizes performance-based evaluations for both internal planning (Intramural and Extramural Program activities) and external reporting (GPRA and PART).
- Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA)
The GPRA of 1993 is the centerpiece of a comprehensive set of Federal Government management reforms. The broad intent of the legislation is to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability of government programs by directing federal agencies to more singularly focus their management efforts on the results that are achieved and away from such traditional concerns such as staffing and activity levels. The Program Assessment Rating Tool (PART) is a systematic method of assessing the performance of program activities across the Federal government. It is a diagnostic tool used to improve program performance. The PART assessments help inform budget decisions and identify actions to improve results.
