CONFERENCE ON CONFLICTS OF INTEREST, PRIVACY/CONFIDENTIALITY AND TISSUE REPOSITORIES, MAY 3 – 5, 2004 RELEASE DATE: April 15, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-CA-04-012 National Cancer Institute (NCI) (http://www.nci.nih.gov) The Resources Development Branch of the NCI wishes to call to your attention to a conference being held in Boston, MA from May 3-5, 2004. The meeting is titled “Conflicts of Interest, Privacy/Confidentiality, and Tissue Repositories: Protections, Policies, and Practical Strategies.” It is co-sponsored by the Columbia University Center for Bioethics and PRIM&R (Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research) in collaboration with the Association of American Medical Colleges and Partners HealthCare System, Inc. Over 3 days, each of these topics will be addressed in full, giving those who attend access to the latest information on regulatory requirements, participant protections, responsive and responsible policies, and effective strategies for implementation. Participants may attend one, two, or all three days including an optional half-day session on the latest Privacy Rule (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) [HIPAA] information. The conference is designed for a multidisciplinary audience including researchers and repository managers, Institutional Review Board (IRB) members and staff, research administrators, faculty, physicians, nurses, policy makers, ethicists, lawyers, compliance officers, and all others concerned with the responsible conduct of research and the protection of the rights and welfare of research participants. This educational activity has been designated for 22.25 category one credits of Continuing Medical Education (CME).
