Why Women's Health

Mission

Research on women’s health has been a priority for NIH and NCI for decades. The mission of the Office of Women’s Health (OWH) within the NCI’s Office of Science Planning and Assessment (OSPA) is to support the NCI mission of reducing the burden of cancer through partnership and collaboration across and beyond NCI programs.

Cancers in Women

NCI supports research on women’s health and cancers in women at all stages, from disease prevention through cancer survivorship. This includes both “women’s cancers” (such as ovarian and uterine) as well as all cancers which affect women. In addition, studies to identify and understand the differences between cancers in women and men, down to the molecular and sub-cellular level, accelerate progress toward the goals of personalized medicine and improved health outcomes.
