Windows Services

The NIH Data Center hosts Windows-based applications on HP Enterprise class servers and SANs (storage area networks) that are carefully managed and monitored on a 7x24 basis. The Windows servers provide a computing environment suitable for critical enterprise-wide applications.

We support the major components of the Windows Server Suite─including Terminal Server, SQL Server 2005, and IIS─in our enterprise-wide environment. The NIH Data Center provides these services in both a shared and dedicated server environment. In addition, we support ColdFusion in both a shared and dedicated Web environment.

As a lower cost solution over standard dedicated servers, the NIH Data Center offers a Virtual Server service in the Windows environment. Server virtualization creates operational benefits, such as increased capacity, by allowing multiple operating system instances to pull resources from a pool of physical servers.

Microsoft’s Content Management Server provides application hosting in a shared Web environment, saving your organization money by leveraging an economy of scale model. CIT can provide the application and template development for the NIH Content Management Server service.

The NIH Data Center also supports SharePoint in the Windows environment. SharePoint is a Web service for information sharing and document collaboration using Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS).
