Wireless at Home Tips

Tips for Wireless Home use:

  • Create a profile for home use that is different than that of the NIH profile
  • Don’t use the NIH SSID on the Home profile.
  • Don’t configure to broadcast the SSID on your Home access point.
  • Don’t use the NIH encryption WEP key for your Home wireless network.
  • Use at least 40-bit encryption for your Home WEP key. It is recommended that you use 128-bit encryption if your Home wireless devices support it.
  • Configure to use the Shared Authentication if possible instead of using Open Authentication.
  • Configure to lock down MAC address association.
