External Instant Messaging

CIT provides a security gateway, with antivirus protection, for users of the IM services listed below.

Register Your IM Screen Name

NIH policy requires that if you are using an IM service, you must register your IM screen name(s) to your NIH Domain Account. Simply log in to the following website using your NIH creditials (NIH\Username and password) and enter your screen names under their corresponding IM service: IM Screen Name Registration.

Note that if your service is not named below, such as ICQ or a Web-based public IM service, then it is not affected by this protection system. However, Trillian, iChat, and other IM “client emulators” generally use one of the below services, but are not supported by those service providers and therefore are not supported by this protection system. If you choose to run an IM client emulator, then you cannot receive support if you have problems with that client. You still must register your screen name, and you will need to know what service your client emulator is using to do so.
