Setting BlackBerry Passwords

 

 

Setting the BlackBerry 6710 and 6510 Password and Security Timeouts:

  1. Use the scroll wheel to move over to the "options" icon on your main screen of your BlackBerry, this is either a Swiss army knife or a wrench depending upon the model of your device.

  2. Push in the scroll wheel to select the options menu and scroll to the security option.

  3. Push in the scroll wheel to select the option.

  4. Press in the scroll wheel to select the menu options. Scroll to the change option menu choice, push the scroll wheel to select it.

  5. Roll the scroll button to change the option from "Disabled" to "Enabled"

  6. Now press the scroll wheel to enable password requirement:

  7. Use the scroll wheel to select the "Security Timeout" option. Scroll the scroll wheel to the timeout interval desired. The press the scroll wheel in again to enable the timeout change.

  8. You will need to save the changes, press the scroll wheel and scroll to "save" and push in the scroll wheel to save.

    If you scroll to another field after making the changes and then choose the escape key (right below the scroll wheel) your will be presented with the following screen. Scroll to Save and push in the scroll wheel to save the changes that you just made.

  9. Once you have chosen to "save" the changes you will be prompted to reset your password and also verify the password by entering it again.

  10. Password and Security timeout is now set. Press the escape key until the device returns to the main menu.

 

Setting a Password on a BlackBerry 7000 Series Device:

  1. Use the scroll wheel to move over to the "options" icon on your main screen of your BlackBerry, this is either a wrench on the 7200 and up series devices. Select the icon by pressing the scroll wheel.

  2. Push in the scroll wheel to select the options menu and scroll to the security option.

  3. Push in the scroll wheel to select the option and it brings you to this screen/menu.

  4. Press in the scroll wheel to select the menu options. Scroll to the Change Option menu choice and push in the scroll wheel to select it.

  5. Change option menu choice, push the scroll wheel to select it.

  6. Roll the scroll button to change the option from "Disabled" to "Enabled" and press the scroll wheel.

  7. Now use the scroll wheel to move to the security time out setting.

  8. Press the scroll wheel to select the "Security Timeout" option times. Scroll the scroll wheel to the timeout interval desired. The press the scroll wheel in again to enable the timeout change.

  9. You will need to save the changes, press the scroll wheel and scroll to "save" and push in the scroll wheel to save.

  10. Once you have chosen to "save" the changes you will be prompted to reset your password and also verify the password by entering it again. Press the scroll wheel when done.

  11. With the later models you also have the opportunity to have the BlackBerry automatically lock when it is placed back into its holster. Scroll to this option and press in the scroll wheel to enable this feature like you did for the previous options.

  12. Password and Security timeout is now set. Press the escape key until the device returns to the main menu. The next time you do not use your device for the set timeout period you will be greeted by the password entry screen. Scroll to the option to unlock the device and press the scroll wheel. Enter the password and press the scroll wheel. You have 10 attempts to enter your password. After 10 unsuccessful attempts the devices memory will be erased.

  13. When a device is locked, you can still make an emergency call (911) and receive an incoming phone call.

Setting the BlackBerry 8700 Password and Security Timeouts:

  1. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select the "Settings" icon on the main screen of your BlackBerry.

  2. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select the "Options" icon.

  3. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "Security Options" text.

  4. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "General Settings" text.

  5. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "Password-Disabled" text.

  6. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "Change Option" text.

  7. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "Enabled" text.

  8. Use the scroll wheel to move over, then click to select "Save" text.

Most of the security settings can be changed from this screen using the same - select/click menus.

 

Setting a Password on Older Models (950 and 957) Devices with No Phone:

  1. Highlight the options Icon (Swiss army knife icon) and press the scroll wheel.

  2. Scroll down menu and highlight "Security", press the scroll wheel.

  3. Highlight "Disable", and press the scroll wheel.

  4. Scroll to "Change Option", and press the scroll wheel.

  5. Use scroll wheel to change "Disable" to "Enable", press the scroll wheel.

  6. Enter new password (must be greater than 4 characters), hit enter key or press in the scroll wheel.

  7. Re-verify password, re-type and press enter or press the scroll wheel again.

  8. Change the timeout settings by scrolling to the Security timeout option, pressing the scroll wheel, select change option, push the scroll wheel, scroll to desired timeout option. Press the scroll wheel/enter key to select the timeout option.

  9. Highlight Enable, click scroll wheel, select "Save" and press the scroll wheel again.

  10. Timeout and the device password has now been set.
