Apple Macintosh OS 10.5 (Leopard) -- Single File Instructions
The single file cannot be delivered by the usual method of using a web browser. To download the file, use a "real" FTP client -- either the built-in FTP client in Mac OS via the Terminal program or a program like Fetch. The following steps demonstrate using the built-in FTP client:
- Launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities
- Type in: ftp isdp.nih.gov
- When prompted, type in your username -- remember to precede your username with: NIH\
- When prompted, type in your password
- At the ftp> prompt, type in: binary
- At the ftp> prompt, type in: lcd ~/Desktop
- At the ftp> prompt, type in: cd /files/test/SBO_1/Apple/OSX
- At the ftp> prompt, type in: get leopard.dmg
- After the file is downloaded -- this will take some time -- type in: bye
- Type in: exit
- Quit Terminal
- The leopard.dmg file can now be used to make a bootable dual-layer DVD of Mac OS 10.5
