Burton Group Institute (http://www.burtongroup.com/) offers research and advisory focusing on infrastructure technologies, strategy adoption, and governance practices relating to application platforms and service orientation, collaboration and content, data center, identity and privacy, network and telecom, and security and risk management. Burton Group offers services in the following categories to HHS:

  • Application Platform Strategies (APS) focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for managing distributed applications across disparate platforms and technologies that may span intranets and extranets. This research and advisory service covers topics such as Java/Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Microsoft .NET, Web services, and service-oriented architecture (SOA).

  • Identity and Privacy Strategies (IdPS) focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for managing and applying identity information, and supporting the identity lifecycle. This research and advisory service covers topics such as identity management, access management, directory services, authentication, federated identity, privacy, and personalization.

  • Network and Telecom Strategies (NTS) focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for managing the convergence of voice, video, and data networks. This research and advisory service covers network transport technologies including virtual private networks (VPNs), wireless and mobility, Internet Protocol telephony, storage area networks, and network architecture.

  • Security and Risk Management Strategies (SRMS) focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for securing information assets across intranets, extranets, and converged virtual enterprise networks. This research and advisory service covers topics such as intrusion prevention, application firewalls, anti-virus, anti-spam, and information protection.

  • Collaboration and Content Strategies (CCS) focuses on the complex set of decisions facing IT strategists in order to ensure that collaboration and content solutions gain broad user adoption, are extensible by developers, and leverage common infrastructure services while enabling applications that satisfy business needs. This requires a pragmatic approach that balances vendor and product maturity against emerging technologies that present both opportunity and risk.
