Where do I find detailed information about preparing my multiproject

Must I receive prior approval for submitting a program project?
Yes. As a potential applicant, you should consult with your program officer as early in the planning stage as possible. Read more at Contact Staff for Help. Discuss
your investigator-initiated program
project application with your program
officer. Your program
officer will request approval from the division director.
Must an unsolicited
program project include cores?
No. However, if you have a core, it must support at least two
projects, and you must demonstrate its relationship to the overall
program focus.
When does NIH need to receive my application?
See due dates for P series applications at NIH's Standard

Can I have an extension for late submission of an unsolicited
application?
See NIAID's Late
Applications SOP.
Who is responsible for communicating with NIAID staff about
the application?
The principal
investigator is
the single contact for communicating with NIAID.
Is
it all right to have multiple PIs on a P01?
Yes. You can have multiple PIs for investigator-initiated P01s and any other funding opportunity announcement that allows that approach. However, many NIAID-specific opportunities don't give you this option, so read the announcement carefully.

Your application
For our unsolicited P01, what can we include as part of
the appendix?
Read If You Need an
Appendix in the NIH Grant Cycle: Application to Renewal. For more details, see General Instructions in our Instructions for Preparing a Multiproject Grant Application tutorial.
Should biosketches
be together in the front Overview section or separate at the
end of each project?
Put all biographical sketches at the end of
the application starting with the PI, followed by key personnel in alphabetical
order, then significant contributors. Read NIAID's General Instructions in our Instructions for Preparing a Multiproject Grant Application tutorial.
Can we send double-sided
copies of our application and bind them together?
No. According to the PHS
398, application copies must be single-sided.
Do not staple or otherwise bind the original. NIH will prepare
double-sided copies to distribute to reviewers. Find instructions
on the NIH Forms and Applications page.
Should I describe the project interactions as a flow chart
or in a detailed paragraph?
You may describe project-core interactions in
the best way to meet the needs of your project. The
more information you provide the better,
since
reviewers will use this to make decisions.
When including images and figures, keep in mind that the Center
for Scientific Review scans paper applications in black and white.
Am I required to submit a signed face page for each project?
No. NIH replaced your signature with an institutional compliance
requirement. Instead of signing a face page, your signature must
be secured and kept by the
organization submitting your application. A principal
investigator signature assurance must be retained for the PI.
Should the Biosketches include Other Support? If so, should
I submit this information for all key personnel?
Though you should not put Other
Support information in your
application, you should state the scientific accomplishments
for each person listed in the biosketch. NIAID
staff will request other support information

Does the Overview section need to include a Resources section
in addition to the ones written for individual projects?
No. You do not need to complete a Resources section for the
overall program
project. Provide essential resource information
in the individual research project and core sections of the application.

How many copies of an unsolicited
P01 should I submit, and should I send them to the Center for
Scientific Review (CSR) and NIAID or just CSR?
Send the
signed original application and
five single-sided photocopies to CSR only.
If you're submitting in response
to a program
announcement (PA), guidelines may vary. Make sure
you read the PA before submitting. Follow
appendix instructions in If You Need an
Appendix in the NIH Grant Cycle: Application to Renewal.
After applying
If we submit a highly multidisciplinary multiproject grant application to NIAID, will different study sections review the research components?
No. P01s are reviewed as a single application in NIAID. We establish special emphasis panels to ensure that all necessary expertise is represented in the review group.
How will I know if my application has been received and assigned
to a review committee?
Go to your eRA Commons account.
Your application assignment should be posted there within two
weeks
of
its submission. If it doesn't appear by then, contact
the eRA Help
Desk.
May
I correct mistakes or make changes to the application after
submission?
Notify the scientific
review officer (SRO) immediately
and explain the situation if you realize your submission has
incorrect information or needs a significant change.
Your
SRO decides whether you may submit limited
additional
information.
If the SRO is willing to accept those materials, the SRO
will add them to your application. The SRO will not remove
pages from your original application.
