Postbaccalaureate Fellowships

This Section is devoted to Postbaccalaureate Training Programs for college graduates who seek an intensive basic or clinical research experience of one-two year's duration prior to obtaining an advanced doctoral or professional degree. Most trainees in this category apply for admission to schools that confer medical, Ph.D., dental, veterinary, pharmacy, nursing, or osteopathic medical degrees. The information contained here is most relevant to:

  1. Current Undergraduates and

  2. Recent College Graduates looking to broaden their exposure to research and expand the scope of their scientific and technical expertise.

The following categories of Postbaccalaureate Training Programs at NIDDK offer a wide array of scientific and career development opportunities (click on the links below for detailed information regarding program descriptions, eligibility criteria, stipends, and benefits):

Intramural Research Training Awards (IRTA) - Postbaccalaureate Fellowships
Intramural Research Training Awards (IRTA) - Technical Fellowships

These three types of Fellowships, along with the IRTA - Predoctoral Fellowships for graduate students, are often referred to as the "Pre-IRTA" group. Please keep this terminology in mind when searching through the various links.
