Troubleshooting Guide

 

CIT has developed a helpful troubleshooting guide for users who are using VPS network printing service for desktop MVS mainframe printing. Below you will find some basic troubleshooting hints for you to try, should you encounter any problems with your network printer. We encourage you to try the techniques below before calling TASC. If the problem still exist, please call TASC at 301-496-2378.

 

Some common problems & solutions

(CIT advises that you contact your LAN administrator

before attempting to troubleshoot any network printer)

 

Problem: Not receiving print out

Solution: Check to see if your local printer and LPD server is turned on and all cables are securely

in place. (Lose cables are often the cause of a printing problem)

 

Problem: Receiving the error: Invalid Destination Name or cannot see printer name in AppleTalk Zone

Solution: call TASC, verify that you are using the correct assigned printer command name.

 

Problem: Not receiving print out

Solution: Ping hostname or IP Address

A successful response may appear as

If your ping was successfulCheck to see if the LPD service has started.

A failed response may appear as

If your ping was unsuccessful, Stop here and call your LAN Administrator

 

If problems still exist, call TASC.
