Dr.
Ernst is a Staff Clinician in the Section
of Developmental and Affective Neuroscience (SDAN) of
the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program (MAP) Branch
of the Intramural Research Program, National Institute
of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda,
Maryland. She completed medical school at the Pitie Salpetriere
University in Paris, France, and the Ph.D. program in
Neurophysiology; Nervous System and Behavior of the Jussieu
University of Paris VI. She did residencies in adult psychiatry
at Beth Israel Medical Center and in child psychiatry
at Bellevue Hospital & New York Medical Center in
New York. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology in Psychiatry and by the American Board

Research Interests |
Dr.
Ernsts research has focused on brain mechanisms
involved in risk factors, pathogenesis, and treatment
of pediatric neuropsychiatric disorders. Before joining
NIMH in March 2001, her work was centered on children
with autism, Lesch-Nyhan Disease, attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder and substance abuse problems. As part of the
Section of Developmental and Affective Neuroscience, she
is now building a research program to examine in children
genetic vulnerabilities for mood and anxiety disorders,
and to map deficits in reward-related behaviors which
play a role in mood disorders.
Her work is noted for studies of functional neuroimaging
in children aimed at clarifying dopaminergic deficits
in disorders involving dopamine abnormalities. She lately
concentrated her work on reward-related mechanisms, using
both positron emission tomography and functional magnetic
resonance imaging. |
