Supporting Technologies/Research Tools in Basic Research Working Group

Before a new therapy can proceed to the clinical phase, much basic research must be conducted. There is a need for validating the long-term stability of stem cells in culture and after transplantation, understanding cell cycle control and cell specialization, and evaluating cell-host interactions.

The goals of the Working Group are to:

  1. Assess the needs for supporting supplies, materials, reagents and databases with broad public access.

  2. Assess needs, progress and opportunities for characterization studies, genomics, and proteomics approaches to better define stem cell lines.

  3. Develop protocols for directed differentiation.

  4. Recommend needs for enhancing research tools to the NIH Stem Cell Task Force.
