Shaniece Charlemagne, MPH, MHA
Health Communication Intern

Shaniece Charlemagne is a Health Communications Internship Program Intern (HCIP) in NCI’s Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch. As a HCIP intern, Ms. Charlemagne’s responsibilities include participating in projects related to NCI’s Small Business Innovation Research Program, the Centers of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research, the Health Information National Trends Survey, and other branch-related initiatives. She will also assist in the coordination of BRP-wide and branch-related communication activities; incorporate policy processes into branch-related projects; and enhance her proficiency with statistical software packages (i.e. SPSS, SAS, SUDAAN, etc.). Ms. Charlemagne’s research interests are in areas of health disparities, rural health and women’s health. She looks forward to collaborating with NCI staff on research proposals, presentations, and publications related to the intersection of health communication and these areas.

Ms. Charlemagne joined the NCI team in July of 2008. Prior to, she served as a Research Assistant for the University of South Carolina Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities. In this capacity, she conducted literature searches and assisted in data collection, performed computer-based statistical analysis of data, and provided writing and editorial assistance in the preparation of grants, manuscripts, and other reports. In addition, Ms. Charlemagne served as a W.K. Kellogg fellow at the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health and as a graduate assistant at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. In this role, she assisted staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state funded research projects, downloaded and analyzed Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Medicaid data for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and Treatment Act, and served as a liaison between SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Best Chance Network and DHHS.

Ms. Charlemagne received her Master of Public Health in Health Services Policy and Management from the University of South Carolina, Arnold School of Public Health. She is currently working on her Master of Health Administration from Webster University in Columbia, SC. She also received her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Benedict College in Columbia, SC.
