Cancer Resources

International Resources

The resources listed below contain information particularly helpful to information seekers living outside the United States.

  • The International Cancer Information Service Group (ICISG) is a network of world Cancer Information Services, working under the auspices of the International Union Cancer Control (UICC), and provides information and resources on all aspects of cancer for those people concerned or affected by cancer.

  • United States – Italy Cooperative Agreement
The National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service (CIS) and the Associazione Italiana Malati di Cancro (AIMac) in Italy have collaborated since 1998 on providing cancer information to the public. The U.S. - Italy agreement, signed in 2003 between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Italian Ministry of Health, was later strengthened with a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. National Institutes of Health and Instituto Superiore de Santina. Under the auspices of this agreement, the CIS and AIMac partnership to advance efforts to reduce global health disparities is planning a series of workshops to increase awareness of complementary and alternative medicine, cancer clinical trials, and issues of cancer survivorship.

  • The International Union Against Cancer (UICC) consists of international cancer-related organizations devoted to the worldwide fight against cancer. These organizations serve as resources for the public and may have helpful information about cancer, treatment centers, and research studies.

  • The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) maintains information about clinical trials being conducted in European countries.

  • The Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian association whose aim is to promote health; reduce the risk of disease; promote research and evidence-based treatment in the field of cancer; and to be responsive to the needs of cancer patients, their families, and care givers.

  • The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is a part of the World Health Organization. Its mission is to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer control.

  • The goal of the World Health Organization (WHO) is the promotion of the highest possible level of health among all peoples.
