NIAAA Institutional Research Training Programs

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) funds Institutional Research Training Grants through the National Research Service Award program. Support of these institutional grants is expected to help ensure that highly trained scientists will be available in adequate numbers and in appropriate research disciplines to meet the Nation's alcohol research needs. Institutions select promising students to sponsor for predoctoral and/or postdoctoral training in research areas pertinent to understanding the causes, consequences, treatment, and prevention of alcohol-related problems. Special attention is given to recruiting minority individuals and women. Opportunities exist for both basic and clinical research in a variety of disciplines, including social, behavioral, biomedical, and biological sciences. NIAAA has funded more than 100 pre-and postdoctoral trainees annually, many of whom are now active investigators in the alcohol research field. Interested individuals or sponsors should contact the Program Director for more information about specific opportunities at the addresses listed below. In addition, many of these training programs have websites on the Internet which can be reached at the URL addresses below.
