Category Fungicides
Description Dark brown to black, odorless solid. [fungicide]; [NIOSH]
Sources/Uses Fungicide used on fruit, nuts, vegetables, ornamental crops, in household applications; [HSDB]
Comments The EBCDCs (ethylenebisdithiocarbamates) can cause irritant and allergic contact dermatitis. EBDCs include ferbam, vapam, maneb, mancozeb, zineb, thiram, and ziram. They are also used as rubber accelerators. Ethylene thiourea (ETU), which may contaminate EBCDCs, is carcinogenic and teratogenic in animal experiments. [LaDou, p. 565-70] See the agent, "Ethylene thiourea."
Exposure Assessment
Skin Designation (ACGIH) No
TLV (ACGIH) 10 mg/m3
PEL (OSHA) 15 mg/m3, total dust
IDLH (NIOSH) 800 mg/m3
Excerpts from Documentation for IDLHs Human data: Large oral doses cause gastrointestinal disturbances [Proctor et al. 1988]. The dust is irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract; severe exposures are expected to cause depression of the central nervous system [Proctor et al. 1988].
Vapor Pressure 2.73 x 10 -10 mm Hg
Explanatory Notes See 2008 Notice of Intended Changes; [ACGIH]
