This is a list of some of the many chemicals used in photographic processing. If engineering controls are in place to enclose the processes, the workers will experience little or no exposure to these chemicals. However, allergic contact dermatitis and asthma are associated with exposures to relatively low concentrations of sensitizing chemicals. See ILO Encyclo, Vol. 3, p. 85.1-85.16. Cyanotyping (blueprinting) uses two chemicals: ammonium iron (III) citrate and potassium ferricyanide. Carbon arcs have been used in this process with potential exposure to rare earth metals.
