Sources/Uses The tree grows in Burma, India, Thailand, and Malaysia. It has been transplanted to South Africa and the West Indies. Resistant to termites and chemicals, teak wood has been used in exterior structures, chemical containers, and also in furniture. [Kanerva, p. 778]
Comments Allergic contact dermatitis and asthma have been reported. [ILO Encyclo, Table 86.1] The main allergen is deoxylapachol, one of the most potent natural sensitizers known. [Kanerva, p. 778] Teak causes immunologic contact urticaria. [Kanerva 2004, p. 100]
