Victory for Equal Pay
The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act won approval in the U.S. Senate on Friday, January 23, 2009. The bill extends the statute of limitations for filing pay discrimination suits and also allows workers to sue for each discriminatory check, not just the first 180 days of unfair pay. It is a great step forward in providing equality for women. The AWIS Advocacy Committee joined with women's coalitions in Washington DC and around the county to push the legislation forward.
