About RNA interference (RNAi) on CGAP

The Cancer Genome Anatomy Project (CGAP) leads two initiatives to support and promote the advancement of RNA interference (RNAi) technologies and tools.

The short hairpin RNA (shRNA) Clone Library is an initiative that supports the construction and cataloguing of shRNA clones into a publicly accessible, no-cost online database. The clones, prepared in the laboratory of Greg Hannon at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, are targeted to cancer-relevant and non-cancer genes. To date, the CGAP/shRNA Clone Library consists of over 80,000 human and 65,000 mouse shRNA clones. The clones are available to the public from a commercial distributor.

The CGAP also supports and hosts the shRNA Validation Project, in cooperation with the Integrative Cancer Biology Project. The purpose of the shRNA Validation Project is to yield a set of shRNAs that have been shown to repress expression in cancer-relevant genes. To date, over 300 validated shRNA clones targeted to cancer genes have been found and published within the CGAP public database.
