New Biowulf Login Node (Biowulf)
Date: 23 October 2008From: steven fellini (sfellini@NIH.GOV)
Yesterday (Oct 22) at 2:40 pm, the Biowulf login node had a filesystem failure. The Biowulf staff took the opportunity to bring a new platform on-line which had been positioned to replace the login node in the weeks ahead. This new system is running the latest release of RedHat Linux (RHEL 5), which brings the login node to the same software level as the remainder of the cluster. The hardware platform is a four-processor 2.4 GHz Opteron with 4 GB memory. The system was installed with a 32-bit version of Linux. Therefore by default, any programs compiled on the login node will be 32-bit binaries. As before, if you wish to produce a 64-bit binary, allocate an interactive node and compile there. We apologize for any disruption this sudden software upgrade may cause. Please report problems to staff@biowulf.nih.gov
